Meet Jeremy

portraitJeremy Skinner grew up in Gold Beach and graduated from Gold Beach High School. He went on to earn a BA in history at Lewis & Clark College. He interned at the Smithsonian Institution, curated exhibits across the United States, collaborated on three books related to the history of books, and became a rare books and manuscripts librarian, all while spending his nights working on dual master's degrees in history and library science.

After completing his graduate studies, Jeremy and his wife decided  to return to rural Oregon and work in jobs that would improve the lives of the people and the communities that provided them both early opportunities to learn and thrive. For Jeremy, this work became public librarianship. During the past ten years as the director of Curry Public Library, Jeremy led a $2 million facility expansion, was named Oregon Library Association's Librarian of the Year in 2019, and has established Curry Public Library as an innovator and thriving community space for arts, culture, education, and civic engagement.

Jeremy currently serves on the board of the South Coast Regional Early Learning Hub, the south coast leadership council for Oregon Community Foundation, and as the co-chair for the Oregon Library Association's Legislative committee. He believes in doing things bigger than people think is possible.

Jeremy has served on the Southwestern Oregon Community College budget committee for three years before filling a vacancy on the board. He believes Southwestern is critical to southern Oregon's economic, civic, and social vitality.

In his few spare moments, Jeremy enjoys the outdoor recreational opportunities of the south coast of Oregon.
